PCC at the 2016 USA Curling Arena National Championships

Palmetto Curling Club fielded a men’s and women’s team at the 2016 USA Curling Arena National Championships hosted in West Chester, PA May 10-15. The men’s team was skipped by Jason Neufeld. The women’s team was skipped by Sherri Odlevak. The men’s team won their first two games against the Lone Star Curling Club and the Des Moines Curling Club. The men then lost games against Kansas City and Cincinatti, narrowly missing the quarter-final round. The women’s team lost their first two games but rallied midweek to wins against clubs from Bowling Green and Lansing. They lost their final game against Dakota Curling Club.

Both teams played great and represented South Carolina and the Palmetto Curling Club well!

League Play Begins April 12

Thanks to everyone who attended the open house this week. We had some enthusiastic curlers! Our Spring League teams will be formed this week, and you have until 8pm Thursday, 4/7 to sign up. We curl on Tuesday nights at both 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Each team will play once per week, and the draw times will vary. The last night of league play is Tuesday, May 31. Newcomers are welcome- we will pair you with some experienced curlers who will teach you more about the game as the season progresses. To register for the league, please click the link on the right under “event listing.” (Non-members are those who have not yet paid any PCC dues for the 2015/2016 season. Members are those who joined the club in the Fall either to curl in Charlotte or to maintain their club membership.)

2016 Rocks on Main

In conjunction with the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation Ice on Main, the club hosted the 4th annual Rocks on Main open-air curling demonstration for the Upstate on Thursday January 7th. Over 80 attendees, the largest in the history of the event, learned to curl in 30 minute curling skills clinics instructed by members of the club. The event was free to the public thanks to the City of Greenville.

The Palmetto Curling Club hopes to host a free open house for anyone interested in learning to curl in the late February to early March time frame. Check back with us in the coming weeks as we finalize a date, or send us an email at palmettocurling@gmail.com.
